Detention and Demurrage: Is Your Organization Overpaying?

You may have noticed your organization is paying substantially more in D&D charges over the last few years. Its not just a feeling. The rates have skyrocketed in 2021 and 2022. But, like many, you may have been overcharged. In fact I’ve worked with customers who’ve been unfairly overcharged by MILLIONS. Want to know how I helped them claw back the over payment? Read on!

On December 1st, the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) released new interim rules for processing charge complaints under the regulations set forth by the Ocean Shipping Reform Act (OSRA) of 2022. The OSRA provides recourse to shippers, consignees and other parties to challenge fees levied by common carriers including Detention and Demurrage.

This is great news for organizations already dealing with sharp increases in costs associated with transportation logistics. Finding ways to reduce or eliminate fees, charges and other unnecessary assessorials has never been more important. Understanding the root cause of such fees is also a worthy pursuit so that you can avoid incurring them in the first place.

That’s why I wrote a white paper with the same title as this post, “Detention and Demurrage: Is Your Organization Overpaying?” in conjunction with my colleagues Tim Murphy and Howard Graham at Tenzing Consulting. Download this fantastic resource to learn more about what Detention and Demurrage is, why D&D fees have increased recently, what can be done to mitigate D&D fees and how SBG has helped others recover millions of dollars in overcharges for D&D.

Provide your name and email and we’ll send you the White Paper.
